About
Mireia Peñalver i Guilleumes is a cellist and gambist based in Berlin. During her training she has participated in several festivals, masterclasses and academies, working with musicians such as Lucile Boulanger, Vittorio Ghielmi, Myriam Rignol, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Richard Aaron, Michel Strauss, Troels Svane and Lluís Claret among others.
She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in the Prins Claus Conservatoire (the Netherlands) under the guidance of Professor Jan-Ype Nota, graduating cum laude in February 2017. She’s currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Viola da Gamba at the University of the Arts Berlin.
Being an avid chamber and orchestra musician, she is currently a member of Asambura (intercultural avantgarde chamber ensemble) and The Gardeners (early music quintet) and works regularly with ensembles such as the Noord Nederlands Orkest, Berliner Symphoniker, Philarmonisches Kammerorchester Berlin and Sinfonie Orchester Berlin.
She’s also active as Mirall, her interdisciplinary creation project. In a line of research and exploration of the multiple soundscapes that her instruments unfold, she is currently carrying out a creative work that allows her to approach and experience sound from a contemporary angle. Mirall aims to be a way of consolidating the need to develop a new form of latent artistic expression through the cello, viola da gamba, voice and electronics as main tools.
